Jesus for Everyone

Luke: Jesus for Everyone

Starting in December we will be working our way through the Gospel of Luke to learn more about “everything Jesus began to do and teach”.

“Luke’s Gospel stands out as unique among the Gospels in various ways. For one thing, it is the longest of the Gospels, starting earlier in Jesus’ life than the others (with the announcement of the birth of John the Baptist), and ending later (with Jesus’ ascension to heaven). Only Luke reveals anything about Jesus’ childhood, describing his family’s visit to Jerusalem when he was 12 years old (Luke 2:41–52). Even more significantly, Luke is the only Gospel writer to provide a sequel, the Book of Acts. Luke continues his story beyond the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus to the birth and growth of the early church”. (Mark L Strauss – The Bible Project)

Luke has a strong interest in the universal scope of the Gospel. It is a message of salvation for all people, Jews and Gentiles alike, and what we see is that throughout his gospel, Luke makes it clear that we are all sinners and in need of salvation, and Jesus for him was the supreme example of what the power of God can do in a person’s life. As we move through Luke we will encounter people from all walks of life whose lives were completely transformed by the awesome power of God…He writes of Jesus’ interactions with Gentiles, women, children, the poor, widows, the disabled, lepers, those who conspired against him, prostitutes, sinners, the self-righteous, and other social outcasts. Luke’s aim is to show us that Jesus’ coming to earth was in fact for the whole world, the Gospel is for all – Jesus is for Everyone!
